The following section serves as an introduction to the e-Learning course «New Sanitation Systems and Technologies». It sets out key principles and process guidelines to help city stakeholders develop appropriate and affordable solutions to sanitation problems taking into account technology issues, management arrangements, institutional challenges and demands for improvement from different stakeholders.

The emphasis of this introduction is on planning sanitation, while the course «New Sanitation Systems & Technologies» itself will concentrate on sanitation infrastructure to show the main advantages and limitations of different sanitation technologies and the appropirateness of sanitation system configurations.

This introduction unit «Sanitation 21 | Planning Framework» has to be completed successfully before a participance at the actual e-Learning is possible.

This refers especially to the PDF-documents (offline reading material) related to the 5 «Stages of the Planning Process» – these documents are a necessary preparation for the online course.

The self-learning unit ends with a short written test which is available online only.
