Recommendations for Water and Sanitation Sector Plans and Programmes
- Mainstream HIV into water and sanitation planning and policies.
- Identify and address issues specific to HIV-infected and affected families, such as needs for additional quantity of water, latrine access, etc.
- Map access to water and sanitation points and target areas of HIV prevalence and/or vulnerability when constructing new water and sanitation points.
- Assess effects of inability to pay on water and sanitation systems; develop alternative structures, such as focused subsidies.
